Are you familiar with the term ‘bursae’? It refers to the many little sacs containing liquid that are distributed throughout the body, which help to lubricate muscles and tendons as they move across one another. This is where the term ‘bursitis’ originates.

>> Quick link to shortlist of natural remedies for painful bursitis

Bursitis is the painful inflammation or irritation of the bursa

The bursa is a soft, tiny, fluid-filled sac that covers and cushions the movement between the bones, tendons and muscles near the joints. There are 160 bursae in the body. The major bursae are located adjacent to the tendons near the large joints, such as the shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees.

Healthy bursae create a smooth, almost frictionless functional gliding surface making normal movement painless. When bursitis occurs, however, movement relying upon the inflamed bursa becomes difficult and painful. Additionally, movement of tendons and muscles over the inflamed bursa aggravates its inflammation, perpetuating the problem.

Bursitis usually occurs under the shoulder muscles, at the elbows (called epitrochlear bursitis or “tennis elbow”), the hip sockets (called trochanteric bursitis), heel bones (called retrocalcaneal bursitis) or the kneecaps (called infrapatellar bursitis or “housemaid’s knee”). It can also occur in the buttocks (called ischiogluteal bursitis) or the thigh (called trochanteric bursitis).

Causes of Bursitis

Elbows and knees are the most commonly affected area of the body. Inflammation of the bursae can also cause other inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. On occasions, scoliosis can cause bursitis of the shoulders. Shoulder bursitis is generally caused by overuse of the shoulder joint and related muscles.

Traumatic injury is another cause of bursitis. The inflammation irritates because the bursa no longer fits in the original small area between the bone and the functionary muscle or tendon. When the bone increases pressure upon the bursa, bursitis results.

Symptoms of Bursitis

Bursitis can be either acute, sudden or sharp following an injury, or alternatively a chronic, recurrent inflammation in the same area.

Bursitis symptoms vary from acute local joint ache and stiffness, to burning pain that surrounds the joint around the inflamed bursa. Painful Bursitis is usually worse during and after activity, and then the bursa and the surrounding joint become stiff the next day in the morning.

When a joint is overused or when it stays under pressure or tension for extended periods of time, nearby bursa can become inflamed. The bursa fills with excess fluid, causing pressure on the surrounding tissue and resulting in bursitis.

The most common examples of Bursitis

* Prepatellar bursitis, commonly know as housemaid’s knee * Infrapatellar bursitis, commonly called clergyman’s knee * Trochanteric bursitis * Olecranon bursitis characterised by painful swelling in the elbow * Subacromial bursitis which gives painful shoulder symptoms

Diagnosis of Bursitis

Bursitis is commonly identified by localized swelling, tenderness, and pain with motion of the tissues in the affected area. X-ray testing can sometime detect calcifications in the bursa when bursitis has been chronic or recurrent.

Why bursa become inflamed?

A bursa can become inflamed from injury, infection (less common in the shoulder), or due to an underlying rheumatic condition. Examples of bursitis include injury as subtle as lifting a bag of groceries into the car inflaming shoulder bursitis, infection of the bursa in front of the knee from a knee scraping on asphalt known as septic prepatellar bursitis, and inflammation of the elbow bursa from gout crystals causing gouty olecranon bursitis.

>> Quick link to shortlist of natural remedies for bursitis

Treatment of Bursitis

Treatment depends on whether or not it involves infection. If it is not infected (from injury or underlying rheumatic disease) it can be treated with ice compresses, rest, and anti-inflammatory medication and pain relief medication.

Occasionally, itrequires aspiration of the bursa fluid. This procedure involves removal of the fluid with a sterile needle and syringe.

Non-infectious bursitis can also be treated with a cortisone injection into the swollen bursa. This is sometimes done at the same time as the aspiration procedure and typically rapidly reduces the inflammation of the swollen bursa.

When it becomes infected, or septic, it requires even assessment by your doctor and aggressive treatment. The fluid can be examined in the laboratory to identify the microbes causing the infection.

Rehabilitation Exercises

The rehabilitative exercises known as Pilates are actually great for people with such injuries, particularly in areas such as the knee, neck or shoulders because it can be undertaken without straining the affected area. It is also good for weak muscles and particularly bad posture because it encourages you to strengthen your problem areas in a relaxed and low impact way. Of course, it is advisable that anyone with serious injuries consults their doctor or physio first.

>> Quick link to recommended shortlist of remedies

Author Fiona Eakin has been a Pilates instructor for over 10 years. Fiona has specific Pilates exercise programs to help relieve your knee pain or neck and shoulder pain.

Not many of us can go through life nowadays without suffering some kind of hip or back pain.

>> For a list of powerful and effective natural pain treatments click here

For many it is a condition that persists and becomes a chronic problem. So if we can do something to prevent it happening we’ll all be all the better for it.

Know how to protect yourself from lower back and hip pain. Learn some of the symptoms and the treatments.

During a person’s lifetime one thing that is common is that people will suffer from lower back pain. Most of the time the cause of low back pain is a bump or even an accident.

When this happens it is usually a mild case and treatment is usually easy. Controlling back pain can sometimes be very difficult, making it harder to control the occurrences of the back pain. For instance, back pain can be the symptom of certain spinal conditions that many are born with and not discovered until the pain starts.

You can help reduce and eliminate the pain once you can find out the source of the pain.

Consider these things if you are under 60 years old, age and lower back pain do play a role. Older people, usually those over 60, are categorized into a separate group. They often suffer from conditions such as arthritis and other degenerative conditions that are known to cause back pain. For the people who are under sixty, there are really 3 main group or categories. These are characterized by some common symptoms:

Herniated Discs – Numbness and pain that shoots down the legs from the low back. Pain increases with long periods of sitting or standing. Degenerative Disc Disease – Making certain moves and being in specific positions can cause the onset of back pain. This pain can become chronic and extremely painful.

Stress Fractures – Can be very painful and caused when walking or standing. If you are older: A cause of back pain common for those that are older is Osteoarthritis. This can stiffen your back and cause pain. The onset of this pain is usually in the morning or late at night.

Spinal stenosis. Another type or cause for the elderly is lumbar spinal stenosis. What happens is there is pressure put on the nerves of the spine and usually will cause pain in the legs. Low back pain by disc degeneration is also common.

>> For a List of Powerful and Effective Natural Pain Treatments Click Here

Muscles around and supporting the discs go into a spasm causing chronic back pain. Mechanical pain is common because the disc that is degenerating is becoming inflamed. By replacing the bad disc with an artificial one you help relieve the pain associated with degenerative disc disease. Less know conditions for low back pain Some of the lesser known conditions of low back pain make it more difficult to diagnose therefore making it more difficult to treat.

What causes lower back and hip pain:

Fibromaygalia Sciatica Spinal tumor Poly Neuropathy Sacroiliac joint syndrome Piriformis syndrome Infection. These less common causes for back pain can be treated if diagnosed correctly. Some good news If you can determine the cause of lower back and hip pain, it is easier to find a treatment for the pain. By treating the back pain correctly you will be better off.

Also, showing you ways to get rid of neck and upper thoracic pain too.

Have you ever thought about homeopathic treatment for hip pain?

What do you know about a homeopathy treatment? The answer is probably going to somewhere along the lines of not much. The reason for that is quite simple. Not many people trust what professionals do not preach about. Because professionals don’t advocate the advantages of using a homeopathy treatment as an alternative to conventional medications people don’t trust it.

The truth is that a homeopathy treatment could do your body and mind a much greater favor on a holistic health level than any chemical concoction brewed up in a pharmaceutical laboratory. A large number of practitioners don’t let you know about it as you will get a nonprescription natural treatment for your problems and they would not earn money from you.

A homeopathy treatment uses ingredients from a broad spectrum of natural sources, sometimes chemicals are added to activate or extract these ingredients. It is also a fact that there are a great many ailments and ills that can be cured with the use of a homeopathy treatment, besides chronic hip pain. Aside from the homeopathy treatment being mostly natural the best part about it is that you do not need a prescription for it so you can get it over the counter at a local heath or homeopathy store.

Homeopathy and cancer

Cancer is one of those vicious and indiscriminative diseases. It has no resemblance with your any type of position. It picks victims at random and can show up at the most unexpected and inopportune times. A homeopathy treatment may be able to treat your cancer or the cancer of a loved one and give the sufferer a second lease on life. A homeopathy treatment is used in restricting the tumor growth and also several secondary causes which appear due to cancer.

homeopathy cancer treatment can also be used in conjunction with the more scientific and conventional methods to increase the potency of your fighting forces when waging the war against cancer. You can choose to battle the cancer on a holistic level with a homeopathy treatment. This means that you are fighting it on a psychological, emotional and physical level with the help of homeopathy. Or you could choose to use a homeopathy treatment just to target the cancer and concentrate efforts on reversing tumor growth. Homeopathy is a powerful weapon in your arsenal when it comes to fighting cancer and when facing such a deadly opponent you can use all the help you can get.

Homeopathy and hip pain problems

For chronic hip pain there are various homeopathic remedies that can help both with bone restoration and with the causes of hip pain, such as arthritis, including Cal-p, Calc-f and Symph. The treatment also includes remedies for possible emotional trauma as hip problems are often associated with wanting to take a new direction in life and feeling unable to move forward or with prolonged family stress. homeopathy addresses the whole person, not just the physical symptoms

The term "Arthritis" refers to more than 100 different types of diseases which all cause pain, stiffness, and inflammation in the joints of affected people

>> For a recommended shortlist of natural treatments for pain, stiffness and inflammation Click Here

Joint pain is prevalent in all forms of arthritis, such as pain in the hip joint or in the knee. Every type of arhritis can vary by degree of seriousness, pain, degree and duration of joint pain.

Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis

Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis are the two most common forms of arthritis. Osteoarthritis destroys joint cartilage most often in the hip or knee and is the most common form for this type of joint cartilage arthritis. Bony outgrowths or bone spurs as they are commonly known are found in many cases of Osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis is usually found in people over the age of 55. An aged disease of the joints is how it is usually described. Hands, feet, spine, hips and knees of the afflicted are the most common places to find Osteoarthritis.

In rheumatoid arthritis, the patient experiences white blood cells in the synovial membrane dividing, growing and multiplying. These produce inflammation of the joint capsule and synovial membrane, loss of space in the synovial cavity, pain and stiffness in the joint. If there are no arthritis treatments or relief, this may lead to cartilage destruction.

Inflammatory Arthritis

Inflammatory Arthritis is another form of arthritis that inflicts its pain on people. This type of arthritis causes very severe inflammation in the joints and the tendons of the victims.

This is mostly characterized by the swelling and inflammation of the synovial membrane – thereby causing severe pain and stiffness in the joints of the victims. The joints of Inflammatory arthritis sufferers look red and are warm to the touch.

Arthritis relief for sufferers is necessary to reduce the pain.

Arthritis treatment is therefore very important, especially in a country like the United States where Arthritis is the number one cause of physical disability. There are an estimated total number of 43 million Americans – 16 percent of the population, suffering from one form of arthritis or the other.

Adults are not the only ones who need relief through arthritis treatments, children also require pain relief and treatment. In the United States, about 300,000 children suffer from one type of arthritis related disease or another. Children, being very susceptible to pain, need arthritis relief and treatment more than ever before.

>> For a recommended shortlist of natural treatments for pain, stiffness and inflammation Click Here

Unlike adults who can endure joint pains like chronic hip pain to a great degree, children cannot and therefore need arthritis relief as soon as the problem starts.

If you feel that the hip pain you are suffereing might be due to arthritis then it is best to get it checked out as soon as you can before the condition gets any worse.

One of the best things you can do for your self is to learn about an arthritis treatment center near you.

If you have arthritis then you know how difficult life can be, and something that you are really going to need is to have help and support through these difficult times.

The biggest mistakes people make is that they think arthritis is mild and not really worthy of concern.

In fact, arthritis can be so painful that it can be practically debilitating and so if you or someone that you know is suffering from arthritis, you are going to want to do anything to help you or your loved one.

Getting to a rheumatoid treatment center is one of the most important things you can do. When you go to an arthritis treatment center you will be able to talk with specialists and doctors that are experienced with the types of treatment for the specific type of arthritis that you have.

More Tips

Now besides going to an arthritis treatment center, there are also other tips that are going to help you with your arthritis and make sure that you are in the best health possible.

An important tip that arthritis sufferers need to is to make sure that you read the ingredients on the label of any product before you take it to treat your arthritis.

You want to make sure that you know just what you are using to treat your arthritis and that you are using all natural products if you can. However, you want to keep in mind that you may not always be able to rely solely on natural products, especially if your arthritis is in an advanced state.

You can talk with your doctor about this and they will be able to talk to you about finding an arthritis treatment center and make sure that you are getting proper treatment for your condition.

There hundreds of different arthritis treatment centres out there, so you needn’t ever feel alone because there are people out there to help you.

It is crucial that you work with your doctor and whatever specialists you can to get help.

                                                             Arthritis Treatment Center Comparisons

The importance of doing an arthritis treatment center comparison is definitely valid.
The pain known as sciatica (sometimes misspelled as “syatica” or “psyatica”) is caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve (one on each side).

The symptoms of sciatica usually start in the hip or buttock and may extend partially or all the way down the leg.

Amazing video about sciatica tells all!

The sciatic nerves are each formed by nerve roots from the lower lumbar and sacral parts of the spinal cord. The individual nerve roots come together in the lower pelvis to form the sciatic nerves. Each sciatic nerve then runs from the pelvis down the back of each leg. The sciatic nerve splits into two parts below the knee and the two halves run down the back of the lower leg to the foot.

Get natural ease for scaitic pain
While there are several possible causes of sciatica, by far the most common source of sciatic nerve irritation is a bulging or herniated disc in the lower lumbar spine.

A damaged disc may bulge into the opening where one of the nerve roots exits the spine on it’s way to join other nerve roots as part of the sciatic nerve. The bulging disc may create direct nerve pressure, and/or may trigger inflammation and swelling, which can also cause pressure on the nerve.

Learn how to treat inflammation naturally

When this occurs, pain and other symptoms may be felt part along the course of the sciatic nerve, starting in the buttock area and possibly running down the leg, sometimes all the way to the foot. Chronic hip pain may be due to sciatica.

Besides disc bulges, spinal openings for nerves may be narrowed by bone spurs or other bone formations related to spinal degeneration. In some cases, sciatica may result from direct trauma to the nerve after it exits the pelvis, such as what can happen if there is a direct impact or hard pressure applied in the lower buttock region. Rare sources of sciatica can include spinal tumors, which can compress sciatic nerve roots as they exit the spine. Another rare cause of sciatica is a cyst or tumor that compresses the sciatic nerve in the hip or knee area.

Cure the pain of sciatica with hypnosis

Not every buttock or leg pain that people think is sciatica is acutually sciatica. True sciatica (sciatic nerve irritation) is usually felt mostly in the back of the leg (not the front or side of the leg). Symptoms of true sciatica are described by various people as stabbing, burning, tingling, numbness/heaviness, or like an electric shock. But even if symptoms seem like sciatica, they are not always due to actual irritation of the sciatic nerve.

One common condition that closely mimics sciatica is caused by knots of contraction called trigger points in a muscle called the piriformis.

The piriformis muscles are located on either side of the lower buttock area, running from the upper thigh bone to the edge of the sacrum (the triangular pelvic bone that is at the base of the spine).

In addition to causing symptoms that mimic sciatica, tightness in the piriformis muscle may also cause true sciatic irritation, because the sciatic nerve actually runs through the center of the piriformis muscle in some people, and can be compressed by excessive muscle contraction.

Treat pain naturally, easily and quickly with EFT

Trigger points in other muscles in the buttocks and upper thigh can cause referred pain in the side of the leg that may be mistaken for sciatica as well. It should be kept in mind that true sciatica and piriformis syndrome are associated with symptoms that are primarily felt in the back of the leg. If symptoms are in the front or side of the leg, there’s a good chance that the problem is not sciatica.

Treatment of sciatica is usually associated with treating a bulging disc. The first line of treatment is usually an attempt to reduce inflammation to reduce pressure on the nerve by means of oral medications. If oral medications fail, steroids may be injected in the area of the disc bulge in order to provide more potent anti-inflammatory effects. A variety of other types of treatment may also be used, such as physical therapy, massage, chiropractic or osteopathic spinal manipulation, acupuncture, or one of the newest forms of treatment, spinal decompression. In some situations, surgery may be recommended as a last resort.

Treat inflammation through a special nutrition program

Most episodes of sciatica will resolve within a period of several weeks with or without treatment, but due to the severity of the pain typically involved, most people with sciatica will seek out treatment. Unfortunately, due to misconceptions by doctors and patients alike regarding the nature of sciatica, the necessary steps to prevent a return of sciatica are usually not taken. So, even though most people do recover from a bout of sciatica, nearly all will eventually have problems again at some point. Even sciatica sufferers initially treated successfully with surgery will often have future problems with sciatica.

Prevent the reoccurrence of sciatica. Learn how here

The good news is that with awareness of how to manage sciatica and a little bit of effort dedicated to prevention, most people can avoid ongoing long-term sciatica problems. The challenge is simply to making people aware of the necessity of a “management” versus “cure” approach to sciatica and getting them to follow-through with preventive exercises and other self-care techniques.

Sciatica sufferers complain of a deep, unrelenting pain that originates, like the sciatic nerve, in the lower back and shoots down the buttock and leg. Patients usually report that the sciatica symptoms may come and go

Besides pain, other symptoms may accompany sciatica. These symptoms include sensations such as tingling, pins and needles, burning, numbness or muscle weakness. Such symptoms may be felt in the buttock, thigh, behind the knee, calf.

Bursitis hip pain can be a debilitating condition that makes your everyday activities a chore to complete.

Once your doctor has diagnosed your condition as a bursitis hip condition, they can help you treat it with the best remedy possible.

You can also find home remedies that will help relieve your hip pain which comes about through inflammation of the joints, tendons and ligaments and is mostly experienced in the thigh area. There are also some treatments for bursitis prevention that will help fend off the condition altogether.

If you do not have access to doctors or other medications for the treatment of the pain, one of the best things you can do is to rest the affected area.

Try some relaxation CD’s

Do not apply stress or pressure to the area because this will only increase the inflammation and swelling. If it gets worse, it can cause more problems that will be long-term. Also, once you begin having pain, ice is another ideal treatment for bursitis relief. As a treatment apply an ice pack to the affected area twice an hour for 10-15 minutes at a time. Do this for 72 hours and then only three times a day after that. This will help reduce inflammation and promotes healing and, as a result, bursitis hip pain relief.

Pain pills and anti-inflammatory tablets are another popular treatment for bursitis.

A natural pain killer I would recommend is a herbal product called Eazol

Though regular drugs should not be used as a long-term bursitis relief treatment, it can be used for immediate acute bursitis relief. You can also do a variety of range-of-motion exercises to prevent stiffness in the affected joint. Gently move the joint along its intended range without putting too much stress on it. By using this as a relief treatment, you can gradually resume normal activity if your case of bursitis is not serious. In addition, smoking can contribute to inflammation of the joints, so reduce or eliminate your smoking habit while you are undergoing treatment.

If your case of bursitis is chronic and more serious, you may have to undergo more invasive treatments. Your doctor may need to suction the fluid out of the inflamed bursa in order to check for infection.

You may also need to have joint surgery or, in some cases, a joint replacement in order for treatment to be effective. Oftentimes, you can avoid this by utilizing a bursitis treatment before it gets to a chronic stage, but in cases of sudden injury or prolonged pain, treatment is not as simple as applying an ice pack to the affected area.

Bursitis hip pain relief can be as minor as placing ice on the affected area or as serious as replacement surgery. After your doctor diagnoses your condition, he can also help you find the best bursitis treatment specific to your case. If you allow the pain and symptoms to go without treatment, you could make your particular case more serious.

Lower back pain and hip pain have become a very common problem in the West today and it is often associated with the fast pace of life, perceived economic pressures and increasing stress.

With the rising demand of our work pressure and fast and hectic lifestyle, lower back and hip pain has become a common complaint. The treatment of joint and muscle pains are deeply inter-related to various causes which we all need to know and understand

Introduction

A large number of American adults suffer from acute lower back and hip pain, which makes their daily life miserable. Lower back and hip pain not just affects your daily schedule at work and leisure; it might have serious consequences, leading to chronic bone or nerve problems. The key to correct the pain is to first figure out the root causes and then treat them accordingly. There are various causes of lower back and hip pain; however, each individual may experience the pain for a different reason.

About Lower Back and Hip Pain

Pain in the lower back can be horrible in itself and when it comes along with a hip pain, it can be really awful. The worst part of the fact is most of the time you might experience lower back and hip pain together. Though this pain is often associated with the aging process, it is very much possible that lower back and hip pain may even happen to young adults due to a variety of causes.

Primary Causes

Inflammations, mis-alignment of the joints and muscle tightness or weakness are some of the primary aspects that cause back pain. These conditions often contribute to hip pain arising from the piriformis syndrome, which further leads to sciatic nerve inflammation. Often, these conditions are created due to a strain or injury in the lower back which flows down to the hips.

Distortion of the pelvis may also lead to lower back and hip pain as the pelvis is attached to the hips. Partial dislocation in the hip joints is caused due to instability of the hips and the disbalanced hip joints lead to lower back and hip pain.

Risks

Certain conditions may aggravate the chances of lower back and hip pain. Pregnancy, over-stress, stooping or bending jobs, smoking, aging, arthritis, diseases or infection in pelvis or the organs of the lower abdomen, heavy lifting jobs, fracture, serious illness (such as kidney stones, tuberculosis, ovarian cysts, spondylitis etc), obesity are some of those.

Types of Pain

Clinically the pain in the lower back and hip are classified under three categories, namely, acute, sub-acute and chronic.

An acute pain is caused due to excessive use of the back muscles or due to traumatic accidental injuries. This kind of pain is followed by a movement or strain that occurs suddenly. In cases of acute pain, usually soft tissues such as ligaments, tendons etc are damaged. Some of the common symptoms of acute pain include lack of adequate sleep, stiffness, finding difficulty in walking, constipation etc.

Patients suffering from sub-acute pain might require a few weeks to return to their normal lifestyle.

As the name suggests, chronic pain lasts for a longer period of time and in some cases, the patient might never fully recover but only be able to keep it less or manage the pain through diet, exercise or medication . Physical conditions such as slip disc, rheumatoid arthritis, spinal disc herniation, osteoarthritis, vertebral fracture might lead to chronic pain.

Other Important Factors

Some of the other important factors that contribute to the combination of lower back and hip pain include the difference in the length of two legs, bone tumors, incorrect posture and mobility and motion of the hip. Excessive depression, oxygen deficiency, pinched nerves, sciatica, spinal arthritis, muscle injury, hip bursitis, osteoporosis etc. are also considered to be significant conditions, leading to lower back and hip pain.

Symptoms

Some of the symptoms that should be looked for in order to diagnose lower back and hip pain are sudden fevers with back pain along with night sweat, pain in the upper spinal, a pain that has been a result of an accident, injury or trauma and is only getting worse with time. Any structural disorder in the leg, feet or joints and a record of cancer or HIV positive can also be aspects to be taken care of while diagnosing pain in the lower back and hip.

Treatments

It is always advisable to consult your doctor in case you experience any unusual pain in your lower back and hip area. Depending on the patient’s age and root cause, different types of treatments are employed to cure this pain. While some causes can be treated with chiropractic treatment and Chinese ways such as massage, acupuncture etc.; use of herbal medicine, anti-inflammatory enzymatic therapy, homeopathy, allopathic and Yoga are common for others. Stretch exercises and physical therapy along with adequate rest can also be very useful for certain conditions, whereas in some cases the patient might need to opt for surgical solutions.

Conclusion

Proper diagnosis and treatment of lower back and hip pain can only happen once the root cause is identified. Therefore, it is essential to consult a specialist immediately if the pain persists for an unusual period of time.

This is an article discussing how you can use simple techniques to prevent and manage knee, back and hip pain.

Preventing knee pain

Preventing back pain

Preventing muscle pain

Today almost everyone seems to be walking around with some sort of pain, ache or general issue with one body part or another.

I get no better satisfaction than quickly clearing up injuries.

If you have been suffering with a pain for a while now I would urge you to make a stand and vow to get over it.

The majority of pains occur because of a mixture of four main factors:

Tight muscles

In all injuries you will find one or more the muscles in the area are tight, this pulls on the joint and subjects it to undue stress. The resultant effect is a nagging pain and injury. The effect of tight muscles is often seen in knee pain, if for example you took a blow on the knee, say in a fall, you would be temporarily out of action.

The result is that the muscle stiffens up (outside thigh muscle), it is then this stiff muscle that become the cause of the pain. I often meet people who blame their injuries on a fall two years ago. Unless there was actual damage to the bone structures involved the actual pain is infact from the muscle tightness that they failed to address.

The good news is stretching the tight muscles can rapidly bring relief in such situations. Back pain is the same, but there are more muscles that could be tight and in need of balancing

Weak or sleeping muscles.

A weak muscle usually comes hand in hand with a tight one. When a muscle is weak it cannot hold the joint in place. In knee pain it is the weakness in the muscle just above the knee, on the inside thigh that causes the pain to continue. Often knee injuries can be cleared up by simply strengthening this one thigh muscle.

Sleeping muscles are often a problem in injuries. When a joint or area is injured the muscle nearest to the area is down regulated by the body in an attempt to protect the joint. The idea being if the muscle is not working correctly the joint will not be moved as much thus protecting it from further injury.

This is seen a lot in the knee and spine where the muscles that hold these parts in place (tear drop thigh muscle and the core) are switched off by the pain in the area. Sleeping muscles are a catch twenty two because you need them awake to stop the pain.

To reawaken them you must restore posture and muscle lengths through stretching. You will also need to concentrate on getting them working. It is also possible to use touch sensitivity, touch the muscle you want to use, while exercising to wake them up.

Nutrition

The nutritional state of your body greatly affects the health and degree of any pain in the joints. Often sleeping muscles around the spine are caused because of your digestive system has become irritated. This may be from eating poor food choices (non metabolically appropriate). Other joints are affected greatly by the general nutritional state of the body. People are always very keen to take a glucosamine supplement for their joints but not so enthusiastic to get their metabolic type and nutrition sorted. A much greater factor for joint pain than any supplement.

Emotional and energy issues

The mind is connected to the body, in this day and age we do not readily accept that as fact but joint pain can be a great case in point. Since I have introduced emotional freedom technique into my practice I have seen time and again amazing results just by addressing the persons energy system. This works like acupuncture in re balancing the energy points within the body but not with needle, instead with your fingers and a few other techniques. If an emotional block is causing you pain the only way to really treat it is to remove this using EFT

Sciatica Causes

Many different sciatica causes exist. Sciatica, a symptom of a diagnosed condition, can stem from a number of ailments. Though sciatica leg pain is the most common complaint, not all individuals will experience it. For example, in piriformis syndrome, discomfort and pain are most often felt in the buttocks and hip area. Sometimes in the case of a herniated disc, the pain can occur solely in the foot or calf. Manifestations of sciatica can vary just as the number of sciatica causes.

A Slipped Disc

One of the most common of sciatica causes is a herniated disc.

Sometimes referred to as a slipped disc, bulging disc or ruptured disc, this condition occurs when the cushioned spinal disc loses water content, becomes brittle and shifts in between the vertebrae. When the disc begins to press against the nerve roots in the lower back region, the sciatic nerve can become irritated and sciatica can occur. Depending on the location of the disc, different symptoms may occur with sciatica leg pain being the most frequently reported. The disc degeneration leading to the herniated disc can be brought on by injury or simply by age.

Narrowing of the Spinal Canal

Spinal stenosis, refers to a narrowing within the spinal canal. Usually brought on by age and arthritic conditions, the ligaments can begin to calcify and thicken and bones within the spine can also enlarge. Both of these situations reduce the amount of space within the spinal canal, creating pressure against the nerve roots. When this happens in the lower part of the spine, the sciatic nerve can become compressed, creating sciatica leg pain and other symptoms such as numbness and tingling in the back of the thigh.

Fractures in the Spine

Beginning as a fractured vertebrae in the lower spinal area, spondylolisthesis occurs when one vertebrae has slipped over another. This can be brought on in a number of ways. Sometimes spondylolisthesis occurs as a result of another diagnosed condition. For instance, osteoporosis, a disease that leads to loss of bone density, can cause fractures in the spine, leading to spondylolisthesis. This is one of the examples of sciatica causes that may require surgery.

Piriformis Syndrome

Often overlooked as one of the sciatica causes, this condition involves irritation or tightness of the piriformis muscle. Located in the outside of the hip area and reaching across the lower buttock area, this muscle is responsible for the rotation of the hip while the leg is extended. When this muscle becomes inflamed usually due to overuse or inflexibility of the surrounding muscles, sciatica leg pain can result due to the pressure of the muscle pressing the sciatic nerve against bone.

Other Sciatica Causes

In rarer instances, other sciatica causes such as infection and cancer can be responsible for sciatica. Cases have been reported where a bacterial infection caused disc degeneration and ultimately, sciatica. Tumors, growing in the spinal cord, spinal canal or in the membranes can also place pressure against the nerve roots as the tumors increase in size.

When treating sciatica, it can be extremely helpful to determine which of many sciatica causes is responsible. Once the diagnosis is made, specific treatments can be designed to target the root cause of the sciatica episode.
